The problem

When BLAST took over the R6 Esports ecosystem, they needed to make their Rainbow Six Siege circuit accessible to players worldwide. Running simultaneous open qualifiers across eight distinct regions, each with its own bracket schedule, player base, and admin workflow, was a challenge most platforms couldn’t handle.

Scaling qualifiers across 10 regions

In Spring 2023, BLAST ran regional open qualifiers across all 10 Rainbow Six Siege competitive regions in just 4 weeks — covering Europe, North America, Brazil, Oceania, South Korea, LATAM, Asia, and MENA. Running eight distinct regions simultaneously, each with its own bracket schedule and player base, is an organisational challenge most platforms can’t handle. Challengermode could. The architecture behind it was a single main BLAST R6 Hub Space linked to individual regional child Spaces, one per qualifier. Players landed in their regional Space to register and compete, while BLAST admins managed the full circuit from the central Hub. That structure kept 10,000+ competitors organised without requiring a separate admin setup for every region. Automated processes handled bracket progression and match scheduling, keeping overhead low for the BLAST team while giving players a consistent experience across all regions.BLAST Rainbow Six Siege open qualifiers on ChallengermodeOpening the qualifier path to everyone, not just invited or established teams, was central to BLAST’s vision for the R6 circuit. Any player from any of the eight regions could enter. That’s what made the scale matter: 55 tournaments, 4 weeks, one coherent system.

128-slot brackets feeding a $750,000 Major

The EU Open Qualifier alone ran 128-slot brackets using Swiss format, giving teams multiple rounds of competition before elimination. Swiss keeps more players in the tournament longer and produces cleaner seeding for later rounds — it’s the right format when you want grassroots qualifiers to surface genuine talent rather than luck of the draw. All of those regional qualifier paths fed into the BLAST Major Copenhagen 2023, where 24 teams competed offline for a share of $750,000 in prize money. The qualifier system Challengermode ran wasn’t a side event — it was the direct pipeline into one of the biggest Rainbow Six Siege competitions of the year. Over 10,000 players entered the open qualifiers knowing that a path to Copenhagen existed, and that it was open to them. That combination is what made the BLAST R6 circuit one of the most ambitious open qualifier structures in esports: genuinely open access, real stakes, and a platform that could handle the volume.
Challengermode is an experienced and trusted platform partner, having helped deliver a number of BLAST events over the last couple of years. We are delighted to again team up with them to offer countless opportunities to teams across the BLAST R6 circuit as part of the qualifying process. The open qualifier path is such an important part of the esports ecosystem and we are excited to work with Challengermode to open the door to even more teams and players in the Rainbow Six Siege community in 2023. Furthermore, we are excited to see how advancements in technology can further enhance the playing experience.
