The problem
With a community of over 20,000 registered players spanning both dedicated competitors and casual fans, EA was searching for a home for its competitive MCS Ecosystem for Madden NFL 25. EA required a solution that could adapt and implement custom competition formats and structures, and serve as a single destination for schedules, standings, competition entry, and results.
$1.7 million prize pool across six countries
The 2024–2025 season marks the 10th season of the Madden Championship Series, and the scale reflects that milestone. With a $1.7 million total prize pool and competitors from the US, UK, Mexico, Germany, Canada, and Australia, MCS 25 is the most internationally distributed season in the series' history. The tournament pathway runs from open qualifiers through to the MCS Playoffs, where the top 14 competitors advance, and then to the Madden Bowl — the championship finale. Along the way, a Last Chance Qualifier with a $1,000,000 USD prize gives players one final shot at securing their place in the championship bracket.Challengermode's leaderboard and matchmaking systems carried the weight of this pathway. MCS Points accumulated across every stage of the season, keeping the standings accurate and up to date as players moved through qualifiers and bracket play. Automated matchmaking handled bracket generation across all competition tiers, removing the manual overhead that comes with running a multi-country, multi-stage tournament at this level. For EA, the result is a competitive infrastructure that can grow with the series — one that already supports 20,000+ registered players, 41,000+ matches, and over 112,000 hours spent inside the MCS Space.
